Sports Round-Up 09.05.25

From national titles to county cups, the summer term is off to a flying start for Truro School’s athletes. Here’s a round-up of some fantastic performances across a wide range of sports over the past week.

A huge congratulations to Hannah H (3rd Year), who was crowned British U14 Fencing Sabre Champion over the bank holiday weekend. The event took place at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. This fantastic result reflects Hannah’s incredible dedication to training, travelling, and competing – well done!

This week marked the start of the athletics season, with our 1st to 4th Year pupils taking part in the County Schools Track and Field Cup at Carn Brea. We were delighted to see so many pupils representing the school for the first time, showing outstanding commitment and effort. Well done to everyone involved – we’re excited to see how our Super6s team performs next week!

Our U15 Girls had a brilliant day at the Grampound Road Cricket Festival, winning three out of four matches and narrowly missing out on first place by just two runs. Some lovely batting, bowling and fielding secured them a well-earned second place – well done, team!

In games lessons, the glorious sunshine made for a perfect afternoon on the games pitches this week. Pictured are the 5th Year pupils enjoying relaxed but competitive games of rounders and football. Meanwhile, the excitement of the music school building project continued in the background, bringing great energy to the session.

Well done to Millie, Esther, Evie N, Evie F, Jacob, Jonny, Sunny, Noah and Ben M who competed in the blazing sun at the Cornwall U16 Schools Tennis Event. Congratulations to our girls’ team who won the tournament, and to our boys’ team who finished runners-up after a closely contested final against Newquay Tretherras. A special thank you to Noah B and Ben M for stepping in last minute, and to Mr Askey and Mrs Holmer for their expert coaching!

A huge congratulations to Olly and Billy (3rd Year), who represented the Independent School’s Football Association U14 England Schoolboys in a match against Wales in Cardiff. Both boys played brilliantly and were awarded their England caps after the game – a proud and memorable moment! Also in football, Fenella represented the ISFA U15 Girls against Kent Schools and Leicester City Academy. The team came away with wins in both games – fantastic experience and performance all round!

Congratulations to Toby W, whose team – the Penfal Panthers – won the Cornwall Knockout Cup Final on Sunday. A brilliant end to a strong season, capped off with a well-deserved trophy win after all their hard work and excellent teamwork.

Annie (2nd Year) has been competing over four weekends in Club Lifesaving events in Cardiff and Penzance, facing off against some of the best in the country. Well done Annie, and best of luck for the summer’s beach-based competitions!

Well done to Jonny C (3rd Year), who represented the U14 Boys Cornwall Tennis Team in their County Cup at Wootton Bassett. As the number one seed, Jonny won three out of four matches, helping the team to finish second overall – an excellent achievement!

Good luck to the six Truro School pupils selected to play rugby for Cornwall U17s this weekend against Somerset. A fantastic achievement that reflects the players’ hard work and dedication throughout the season.
