As a part of our Neurodiversity Week celebrations, our Pre-Prep pupils have been ‘wowed’ with a showcase of Makaton, presented by Prep pupils Connie and Maya.
Our Pre-Prep children are encouraged to use Makaton daily during their singing to support development and inclusion. As a special treat this week, Connie joined them for assembly to teach them a new song, ‘Beautiful Things’ by Benson Boon and share her Makaton experiences outside of school.
Connie has been learning Makaton as a member of the Penzance Community Choir. Makaton is not only a creative outlet for choir members, but it also supports those within the choir’s community who may use an alternative method of communication.
Our lucky Pre-Prep pupils benefitted from all that Connie has learnt during her time with the Penzance Community Choir and enjoyed her incredible energy. After learning the new song, the pupils then showed Connie and Maya some of the songs they had been practicing in class.
We would like to thank Connie and Ella for their courage and confidence in sharing their knowledge and time with the youngest members of our school family this week. We are extremely proud of the inter-year peer support that exists at Truro School from Pre-Prep through to Sixth Form, and this fantastic pupil-led initiative was an excellent example of that in practice.
