Lynette Carveth (CO84)

Lynette started singing at an early age, appearing in amateur musical theatre and choirs, and playing cornet in the local brass band.

After leaving Truro School in 1984, she attended the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied voice, piano and cornet, specialising in Opera and Jazz. During this time, she sang in the first performance of "Gloria" by the composer Ian Hall for Channel 4 television and performed as a soloist with the opera companies Peterborough, Cornwall and Duchy Opera.

During this time, she sang in the first performance of “Gloria” by the composer Ian Hall for Channel 4 television and performed as a soloist with the opera companies Peterborough, Cornwall and Duchy Opera.

After graduating, she worked as a freelance concert singer, performing in Algeria, Italy, the USA, Spain and the UK. In 1993, she took up residence in Madrid, Spain, where she sang with Radiotelevisión Española, and then spent 12 years in the chorus of the Teatro Real. She has also performed as a soloist at the National Auditorium, among other prestigious venues, taking on roles such as Nedda (I Pagliacci), the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Mimì (La Bohème), Flora (La Traviata) and Frasquita (Carmen) with companies including Ópera Moncloa and Ópera Cómica. Since 1997, she has been a member of the Association of Spanish Composers, performing works by some of the country’s finest composers. In recent years, she has become involved in organising and promoting Spanish contemporary music concerts, a project that has taken her to the USA, where she has given recitals and masterclasses in New York and California.

From 2013 to 2019, Lynette performed with Transbaroque, a group dedicated to reviving lesser-known works and recreating the atmosphere of the 16th and 17th centuries. Performances have included the operas La Malade Imaginaire by Charpentier and Les Indes Galantes by Lully, as well as numerous concerts dedicated to female composers and composers of Latin America. She currently performs with Diletto Ensamble, a Valencian Baroque group focusing on Italian music of the late 17th to early 18th century.

In 2004, she founded the group Caprici Arte y Música, and has written, directed and produced opera and musical comedy for the company. Her shows have been contracted by Madrid City Council, as well as various private companies and embassies. Caprici held a three-season residency at the Victoria Theatre in Madrid, offering fun, interactive shows that bring opera and zarzuela to audiences unfamiliar with the genre, supported by a grant from Madrid City Council.

In 2015, Lynette formed the Madrid International Choir, and after Covid, set up the project “Let’s Get Singing” to promote singing for all. She now runs two choirs in Valencia and is soon to set up two more on the Costa Blanca. She organises corporate team-building sessions and gives singing lessons both online and in person.

She still has strong links to Cornwall, and is proud to be a Vice-President of the Truro Male Voice Choir.
