It has been another fantastic week of sport at Truro School, with success across rugby, athletics, tennis, cricket and netball. Well done to all pupils who have represented the school so well.
Rugby
A brilliant way to end the season for the U15 rugby squad as they welcomed the Royal Latin School during their tour of Cornwall. The match was an exciting exhibition of rugby, packed with outrageous offloads, huge tackles and excellent attacking play, with Truro School finishing as deserved winners. A huge thank you goes to Truro Rugby Club for hosting the fixture so brilliantly, and to the Royal Latin staff and players for a fantastic afternoon of rugby. Thank you also to all coaches, parents and players for their support throughout the season.
Congratulations also to the Truro U15 team — featuring many Truro School pupils — who were crowned County Cup champions after defeating PenFal in the final. Well done to: Jack J, Freddie S, Perran L, Henry G, Billy E, Jasper F, Charlie P, Tom R, Kit F, James H, Jack G. An excellent achievement by all involved.
Athletics
A huge well done to all pupils who competed in the recent Track and Field Cup. Staff commented on how brilliantly pupils represented Truro School throughout the competition, showing resilience, determination and excellent support for one another both on and off the track.
Final team placings:
Junior Boys — 9th
Junior Girls — 5th
Intermediate Boys — 2nd
Intermediate Girls — 10th
We look forward to following our athletes’ progress throughout the rest of the season.
Tennis
Congratulations to the eight U15 pupils who competed in the first County Tennis Championships of the year in extremely challenging weather conditions. After battling strong winds and rain throughout the day, the boys’ team were crowned County Champions, winning all of their matches and securing qualification for the regional finals. A fantastic effort also from the girls’ team, who finished 5th overall, with a special mention to Evelyn, who was the only Year 7 pupil competing across all schools in the tournament.
There was further success for Year 10 pupils Jonny and Antonio, who won the opening stage of the ‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’ junior doubles competition. If the pair are successful in the next round in June, they will earn the opportunity to compete on the famous Wimbledon grass courts. Well done boys — those early morning training sessions are clearly paying off.
Cricket
Well done to our U13 girls’ cricket team who travelled to Blundell’s. The team produced a fantastic all-round performance, with every player contributing with both bat and ball. Meanwhile, the girls’ U15 and U13 squads have enjoyed a busy and successful couple of weeks, taking part in cup fixtures, friendlies and softball tournaments.
Highlights included: Millie N scoring an impressive unbeaten 50* against Cape Cornwall, and Sanna B taking a superb five-wicket haul against Mount Kelly School. Well done to all players involved for their continued hard work and team spirit.
Netball
Congratulations to Lexi C, who has been selected for the Saints Netball U14 Regional Squad following two rounds of rigorous trials. A fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved recognition of her hard work and dedication. We look forward to hearing about her continued progress.
Swimming
Huge well done to Elsa C for representing the Truro City Swimming Club at the Scottish National Age Groups Championships. Making the trek from Truro to Aberdeen to compete on the national stage for the second year running is a massive achievement. It was great to hear the commentary team singling out Elsa’s strong starts – her underwater efficiency looked sharp on the national stage
Back to training now. Well done, Elsa!
Hockey
Summer R was on the pitch, earning more international caps with the England U16 squad in the Easter Series, including a goal against the Netherlands. Huge congratulations to Summer on these fantastic performances!
Golf
Well done to Year 7 pupil Theodore Dixon, who has been invited to play golf for the county and has worked hard to achieve a single-digit handicap. A real achievement, congratulations Theodore!
