Wheels Down on Wednesdays

Wednesday Afternoon has provided an opportunity for a group of pupils to get out to Mount Hawke Skatepark to practice and perfect their skating skills, alongside the guidance of skatepark staff and teachers.

Formed in 1986, Mount Hawke Skatepark is one of the longest-running indoor parks in the UK. Built originally to meet the needs of young people living in rural Cornish communities, Mount Hawke started as an outdoor facility but was developed indoors in 1996, becoming the South West’s largest indoor skatepark.

The purpose-built warehouse stands at 24,000 square feet, and is split into various sections; advance street, beginner/intermediate street, the historical ‘black pool’, the bowl, the rhythm section, the vert ramp, two mini ramps and an outdoor plaza, making Mount Hawke an all-weather facility, which is always welcome on a drizzly January afternoon.

Skateboarding is just one of a huge array of clubs and activities available through Truro School’s co-curricular provision, which is recognised as being outstanding in Cornwall and known for its breadth, high-quality coaching, and unique opportunities that make full use of our exceptional Cornish location.

From sport and music to art, digital creativity, and community service, pupils can pursue passions, discover new talents, and develop confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

Off-site options in the Wednesday afternoon timetable, such as skateboarding, allow pupils to learn and thrive in the stunning surroundings of our county.
