From School to Stable for WAA

Pupils have been horsing around on Wednesday afternoon, with a group heading out to Goonbell Riding Centre in St Agnes, to participate in riding lessons.

The session, which is tailored from beginner through to more advanced levels, began with getting to know their horses, followed by some light trotting, cantering, and jumping for the more confident riders. After the ride, pupils have been learning to groom their horses and put their rugs on.

The session forms part of our programme of Wednesday Afternoon Activities, where every Wednesday afternoon, our usual timetable pauses to make way for over 30 activities. These sessions encourage pupils to learn, grow, and explore interests beyond the classroom.

The programme changes each term and offers something for every pupil. WAA provide an environment to build friendships across year groups, and they offer valuable opportunities to lead and mentor under staff guidance.

At Truro School, we believe that a rich co-curricular life is the key ingredient to aiding character development in our pupils and students. Whilst participating in a wide range of activities, without academic pressures, pupils broaden their horizons and learn a new skill or hone existing ones. This in turn develops their confidence, self-esteem, teamwork and social development. With something on offer for everyone, from sporting clubs to art workshops, digital photography to computing, the timetable offers enrichment opportunities for all year groups.
