Prep Sports Round Up 16.01.26

Despite the stormy start to the week, our Prep pupils have been engaged in a raft of exciting fixtures to start the new year.

It was a lively and rewarding week for netball, with a large number of girls proudly representing the school across several fixtures against Polwhele House. The courts were full of energy, determination, and a real sense of team spirit as the girls continued to grow in both confidence and understanding of the game.

The junior netballers shone brightly: the Year 4s played excellently, with impressive spatial awareness and excellent timing, while the Year 3s grew in confidence throughout the match and linked play beautifully with accurate, supportive passing. It was great to see the girls playing as a team and encouraging each other.

The Year 6 team also delivered a fantastic team performance and took a great deal from the experience. Evie and Evelyn were outstanding in defence, reading the game brilliantly, intercepting passes, and rebounding with real authority. Evelyn’s consistency and impact earned her the well‑deserved title of player of the match. Audrey was on fire in the shooting circle, scoring some excellent goals and giving the team real momentum. The girls produced some superb linking play, and although they began to tire towards the end, they maintained their composure and showed admirable determination right to the final whistle.

What stood out most was the girls’ willingness to apply what they have learnt, communicating effectively, supporting one another, and making thoughtful decisions under pressure. Whether they were new to competitive fixtures or seasoned players, everyone contributed with enthusiasm and resilience.

The teams should feel proud of how they represented the school. Their commitment to improving, combined with the joy they bring to the court, made for a fantastic week of netball. The experience gained will undoubtedly help them continue to flourish as the season progresses.

In football, 40 children from the Prep represented Truro School this week in two fixtures against Polwhele House. Each game was tightly contested with goals scored, tackles made and goalmouth action a-plenty.

It was evident from the first whistle that grit and determination were going to be the first priorities to implement, and once those were in place, Truro began to pass the ball with accuracy and created many chances to score.

The Polwhele goalkeeper was in inspired form when up against our Year 3s, but we kept on pushing to create more and more goalscoring opportunities. The Years 5 and 6 teams performed admirably and could have come away with three victories if they had been a little more composed in front of goal, but again, there was so much to be proud of in terms of the way that they worked hard for each other to win the ball back from the opposition.

Well done to everyone who played, thanks to Polwhele for coming over to visit us and to the parents for coming to watch.
