Senior pupils studying French in Years 10, 11, and 12 have been relishing the opportunity to practice their language skills while learning about travel, independence, and culture on a trip to Nice.
Their packed itinerary included visits to La Promenade des Anglais and a walk to the Colline du Château, a trip to the town of Old Nice, Cours Saleya, Antibes, Juan-Les-Pins, and La Verrerie de Biot.
A sweet section of the trip included a visit to Confiserie Florian for a confectionery workshop and tour, where pupils watched and tasted the best fruits and flowers of the region being transformed into confectionery products.
Spectacular scenery, medieval architecture and ancient cobblestones were delivered in an afternoon of culture spent in Eze and Moyenne Corniche.
Pupils were entertained with music, attending an evening concert ‘La Flemme’, a raw, vibrant, and deeply rooted concert in the spirit of Marseille. Further culture was found at the Picasso Museum, Antibes, with a guided tour and a visit to Antibes Marina.
After all of this exploration, pupils enjoyed a swim and a moment to reflect and relax on the local beaches.
Independent exploration was encouraged, with free time allocated to explore the town, markets, shopping and dine in local restaurants. Pupils were encouraged to practice their French with locals, to find out recommendations of places to visit and food to try.
A large part of the programme was journaling and capturing moments from the trip to reflect on, with pupils writing down their experiences and conversations in French. Photography challenges were set to encourage a mix of artistic expression, local culture, and storytelling through pictures. This saw pupils taking candid shots of local life, cityscapes, and images off the beaten track
The chance to visit Nice is just one of the rich programme of trips that Truro School provides for our pupils and students to further broaden their horizons as part of their learning.
Thank you to Mrs LeBihan Murphy, Mr Sanderson and Miss Magnin for arranging this superb cultural experience.
