Senior Sports Round-Up 10.10.25

It has been a competitive few weeks for Truro School pupils representing their houses, the school and county in a variety of sporting arenas.

Rugby
On Wednesday, a full rugby programme saw 90 pupils represent the school, delivering some excellent performances across all age groups. Years 7, 8, and 9 travelled to Penryn College, the Year 10s faced Kingsbridge in the National Cup, and the Year 11s competed in the County 10s tournament at Newquay Tretherras. Congratulations to all pupils involved for their commitment and outstanding efforts.

Football
Congratulations to the U15 boys’ football team, who travelled to Bristol Grammar School on Monday and delivered an impressive performance, winning their match and progressing to the next round of the ISFA Cup.

Well done also to our U16 girls’ football team, who advance to the next round of the ESFA National Cup following a 5-1 victory against Wadebridge. We look forward to seeing their progress in the next round.

A special congratulations to Max M, Billy E, and Olly S on their selection for the ISFA England U15 National squad. Following a residential trial at Haileybury School in Hertford this summer, the trio were chosen as three of just 18 boys from English Independent Schools. This selection is particularly significant for Max, who at U13 level reached the ISFA Southwest regionals but had to withdraw from the final tournament—and potential national selection—due to a long-standing battle with Osgood Schlatter syndrome, a growth condition affecting the knees and hips. Year 8 was a challenging time for Max, who missed out on much sport, making this selection especially poignant. His advice to younger pupils facing injuries or time away from sport is to never give up, maintain strength and conditioning, and always believe in yourself. Max, Billy, Olly, and their ISFA U15 teammates will participate in a series of training residentials and fixtures over the coming year, starting with an October match against Arsenal FC Academy. Well done to all three!

Congratulations also to Zain on officially signing with the Plymouth Argyle U14 squad for the 2025/26 season and proudly showing off his new kit. This is a remarkable achievement, and we look forward to seeing him continue to flourish at Plymouth Argyle.

Hockey
Our Year 7 hockey pupils have been focusing on defensive skills in preparation for their first House Matches. During the matches, the team demonstrated excellent teamwork and collaboration throughout the afternoon. Well done to all involved!

Athletics
Last weekend, Aria G competed in a national competition where the top four athletes from thirteen regions across Scotland, England, and Wales qualified for the IRC National Triathlon Championships at Mallory Park. Representing the Southwest team, Aria earned a spot in the finals after her morning race on Saturday, finishing 15th in Great Britain. On Sunday, she competed in a transition challenge, finishing 8th out of 112 girls, and then took part in the team relay, where the Southwest squad finished 1st overall, becoming national champions. It was an incredible experience, and we are so proud of her dedication and effort. Well done, Aria!

Netball
It was victory and smiles all round for our Year 7, 8, 9, and 11 netball teams in their SSP match against Truro High School. Coaches praised the teams for superb netball, excellent teamwork, and great support on court.

Last weekend, Evie F represented Team Bath at the ADC Tournament at the University of Bath, marking her first time wearing the blue and yellow colours. In addition to this, Evie competes at regional level with Saints Club U16s across the South West, plays in Division 3 of the Adult Cornwall Netball League, and represents the Cornwall County Squad. She also coaches U12s at her club and completed her ‘Into Officiating’ umpiring course earlier this year. Truro School is incredibly proud of Evie’s dedication and hard work.
