Senior Sports Round-Up 26.09.25

It has been a busy week for Truro School Sport.

Rugby – Last weekend, Truro School Rugby had six teams play fixtures against Mount Kelly and Wellington School in our annual triangular. Over 100 pupils represented the school, with 11 victories out of the 12 games played. An incredible achievement by all – and thank you to the parents and coaches who supported a fantastic weekend of school rugby.

Swimming – Truro School took part in the ESSA South West Swimming Qualifier held at Millfield School this week. The team showcased fantastic engagement, teamwork, and competitive spirit throughout the event, with lots of students experiencing the gala for the first time while representing Truro School.

Our swimmers delivered strong relay performances, with several personal best times achieved along the way. It was a brilliant day of racing that highlighted the determination and camaraderie of our swim team – well done to all involved!

Thank you also to our senior swim captains Luke, Ben, Georgia, and Daisy for being fantastic role models for the group and helping on poolside.

Football – In girls’ football, we say a big congratulations to our defending U16 County Champions who won against Camborne Academy in the first round of their National Cup. Well done to all players involved.

Our U14 girls’ football team travelled to Penrice Academy for the first round of their National Cup competition. After starting 3-0 down, the team worked impressively hard to bring the score back to a 3-2 final score. Mr Hooper commented on how, even in the face of defeat, the group of pupils never gave up, demonstrated exceptional positivity for one another, and were a pleasure to coach, representing Truro School brilliantly. Well done to all!

Tennis – Our U15 girls’ team took on Maynard for regional qualification. After a successful win at the Cornwall Tennis County Championships in the summer term, our U16 team of Millie N, Evie F, Tilly H, Amelie P, and Evelyn L travelled to Exeter, where they took on the Maynard team for a place in the regional finals.

There were impressive wins for Millie and Evie at the number 1 and 2 singles positions, which got the team off to a great start. Evelyn, who made her debut for the school having recently joined us, lost against a higher-ranked opponent after playing some excellent tennis. In the number 4 singles position, Tilly saved two match points against her opponent as she took the match in a 7-6 tie-break victory, in what proved to be the turning point of the fixture.

Amelie came in for the doubles round to play with Evelyn, but they lost 6-2 after playing some excellent tennis. The decisive doubles saw Millie and Evie save a match point to come back and win 7-5, clinching the tie. The girls were fortunate to play in some lovely weather, with a super team spirit displayed by the Truro team – next stop, Regionals!

Netball – The U18 netball team put in a spirited and well-fought performance in their first cup fixture of the season against Ivybridge College, showcasing skill, teamwork, and heart from the very first whistle.

The first two quarters saw our girls lead by two goals, with sharp passing, brilliant circle defence from both Bethany and Captain Jasmine, as well as fantastic shooting under pressure from both Elodie and Tilly. The team worked hard for each other throughout the third and final quarters, with our centre-court players Mabel, Matilda, Lydia, and Ella creating plenty of opportunities and forcing errors from the opposition.

Despite a strong and tireless effort from our girls, with Bella M scoring some lovely shots at the circle edge, a few crucial turnovers and missed chances in the final stages allowed the game to slip away. The final whistle saw them narrowly defeated, but certainly not disheartened. This is a team full of potential – not just talented netballers, but a genuinely lovely group who support one another on and off the court.
Player of the Match: Tilly R (GA)

Hockey – The Year 6 and 7 pupils from the Prep and Senior School had the chance to warm up for the upcoming season with a training match on Friday evening. Both sides grew into the game and played fast, free-flowing hockey. The Year 7s demonstrated their strength this year and showed the Year 6s just what they should aspire to become.

Well done to all of our players, and thanks to the staff who make these opportunities possible.
