This week marks Children’s Mental Health Week, focusing on the theme “A Sense of Belonging.”
Mrs Holman, Head of PSHE, and Mel, our Wellbeing Lead, hosted an assembly exploring ways to help children feel a strong sense of belonging within our community. Pupils took part in a survey, which revealed that family, friends, feelings, and memories all contribute to this vital sense of connection.
Pupils and staff were also invited to vote for a place where they feel a sense of belonging. Mrs Holman created a poster showcasing all of the place names, several of which were mentioned more than once. This will be displayed around the school. These places were described as making people feel happy, calm, relaxed, peaceful, free and unplugged — all words that reflect the Truro School wellbeing ethos.
Inspired by the assembly, pupils have been encouraged to promote belonging within the school community by inviting someone new to sit with them at lunch, sharing smiles, and expressing gratitude towards others.
