Sport at Truro School Prep was, once again, heavily shaped by the weather, with a match cancelled due to the rain and some tough conditions for the matches that went ahead. Despite this, there was still plenty of determination and spirit on display from all involved!
On Monday, 9 February, the U10 rugby team travelled to Truro High School for Girls for a friendly fixture. Despite difficult conditions underfoot at the start, both sides produced fierce tackling and strong direct running with the ball in hand. The focus for the Truro School Prep players was to move the ball one or two passes away from contact to create space for runners, and when this was achieved, it led to several well-worked tries.
The highlight came when Ollie H surged down the wing, leaving defenders behind after two well-timed passes into space. As the match progressed, the pitch became increasingly muddy, making passing and catching more difficult, but the children clearly relished the challenge.
Thanks go to Truro High School for hosting and to the parents who braved the elements to support the team.
On Wednesday 11 February, our U10 and U11 girls’ football teams took part in fixtures against Archbishop Benson School, Bosvigo School and Threemilestone School. Just as play was due to begin, a sudden heavy downpour swept across the pitches, soaking players and surfaces alike, though it did little to dampen enthusiasm.
Three matches were played in worsening conditions, and the girls deserve great credit for attempting to play positive football despite the mud, which by the end covered players almost as much as the ground itself!
It proved a challenging afternoon for the Truro Prep teams against more experienced and physically stronger opposition, but Audrey J, Olivia S and Georgia K delivered standout performances, working tirelessly throughout.
Thanks are extended to all visiting schools for competing in such good spirits, to the spectators who endured the weather, and to the grounds team and staff whose efforts made the fixtures possible, particularly Mr Dove.
