At Truro School Prep, the joy of reading comes alive through our much-loved Buddy Reading sessions. These special times see our older pupils step into the role of reading buddies, sharing captivating stories with children from Reception through to Year 3.
With great care and enthusiasm, the older children model fluency, expression, and a genuine love of books, inspiring younger readers to listen, imagine, and explore new worlds through stories. For the younger pupils, these sessions spark curiosity and build confidence, helping them to grow into enthusiastic learners who see reading not just as a skill, but as an adventure.
For the older buddies, the experience is equally rewarding. Acting as mentors, they develop responsibility, empathy, and pride in guiding their younger peers. They quickly discover the joy of passing on their own love of reading, and in doing so, strengthen their own skills as expressive, confident readers.
Most importantly, Buddy Reading is lots of fun. Laughter, excitement, and wonder fill the classrooms as stories are shared across the year groups, helping to nurture a lifelong passion for reading.
