Crafting a model boat in Design & Technology remains a memorable milestone for every Truro School Year 7 pupil. Across their first term at the Senior School, DT pupils dive into this hands-on project that introduces them to the core techniques and traditions of woodworking.
Starting with a shared template, pupils explore an array of tools including tenon saws, spoke shaves, chisels and sanding machines, gaining confidence as they develop safe working habits and essential practical skills.
As the boats take shape, pupils paint, varnish and rig their vessels, and even design and craft their own custom sails. Each completed boat is a testament to individual imagination, skill and perseverance.
These beautifully made models have become treasured mementoes and lasting reminders of our pupils’ early experiences at Truro School.
