The sun has been shining at the Pre-Prep this week, with pupils enjoying a range of activities both indoors and outdoors to make the most of the glorious weather.
Children in Nursery have been introduced to a new topic: Exploring! As part of this, they’ve been discussing places they’ve travelled to and adventures they’ve had around the world. Excitement grew when they discovered that a robin had nested in their play equipment over the Easter holidays. The children have been learning to respect her space and value the nature that surrounds us. Mrs Stableforth has placed a wildlife camera near the nest so the children can observe what happens when they’re not around. In phonics, the Nursery children have been recapping the sounds they’ve already learned and enjoyed an animal hunt around the room, finding hidden animals and identifying the sounds their names begin with.
In Reception, pupils have started learning about fractions, discovering how numbers can be divided into halves, thirds, and quarters. They’ve been using the bar method and Cuisenaire rods to support their understanding. They have also begun a topic based on the Fender books and are learning about paintings in the Tate St Ives in preparation for a school trip later this term. Beginning with Vivace by Sandra Blow, the children have been using the artwork as inspiration for their own creations.
In Year 1, the children have started learning about Ann Glanville, a Cornishwoman who rose to national fame for rowing a four-oared watermen’s boat. In science, they’ve begun a new topic on life cycles, starting with the life cycle of bees.
Year 2 pupils have been continuing their work on fractions in maths. In literacy, they’ve been exploring poetry and experimenting with different synonyms. Meanwhile, in Forest School, the children have been enjoying the sunshine and searching for signs of spring, which are all around us, especially in this week’s beautiful weather.
We wish all our Pre-Prep families a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend.
