Weekly News from Pre-Prep 16.05.25

It has been a busy, sunny week in Truro School Pre-Prep.

Our Nursery children went on a Bear Hunt in music this week. Having read the story with Mrs Banks, our pupils used their acting and movement skills as we swished, splashed, squelched, stumbled and tiptoed to tell the story again with music.

We have continued with ‘Our Big Adventure’ theme, and we have been on an adventure obstacle course through different environments in our beautiful outdoor spaces. We crawled through a cave (tunnel) and across a slippery bridge over a river.

Activities like this are lots of fun and also help to develop gross motor skills and balance. Our pupils used teamwork to take turns and problem-solving, and communication skills to decide which way to go around the course.

There was also a lot of excitement as our robin eggs have hatched!

This week in literacy, Reception has been writing sentences in the first-person narrative. We have been using conjunctions to help us try and extend our writing. We have also been creating paintings in the artistic style of Alfred Wallis.

In science this week, Year 1 has been exploring how insects’ vision differs from our vision. We have been experimenting with UV lights and investigating how they visualise different colours. In literacy, we have been learning how to pluralise words by adding ‘es’ and ‘s’.

Year 2 had a taster lesson at the Prep School this week. We created similes and spent some time exploring the Year 3 classrooms. In PE this week, we have been honing our bowling skills in cricket and practising for sports day.
