Our lucky Pre-Prep pupils started the week with their first World AIMS (Action in Methodist Schools) Day, focusing on ‘freedom’ and what that means to us and the wider world. It was a fantastic day, and our pupils were thrilled to participate in the soap-making workshops and to play a part in creating the giant letters that spelt out “We are all born free”.
In Nursery, we have continued exploring different areas of our amazing school for the ‘Our Big Adventure’ topic! We have been to the side woods, the Enchanted Garden, the Wild Woods and spent a lot of time in our outside area. Outdoor learning plays such a huge part in our Early Years curriculum, and we are so fortunate to have such an extensive outdoor space to enjoy at Truro School Prep.
As part of exploring our theme of “freedom”, pupils looked at ways of expressing ourselves when we listen to and make music. We listened, sang, danced and relaxed before heading into the woods to make sounds and music in nature. We used sticks to discover new sounds on trees, tyres, pots and pans and the ground.
Reception pupils have been discussing what ‘pollution’ means and exploring how we can be more mindful of our environment, particularly our local beaches. We have created a poster encouraging others to ‘Take 3 for the Sea’; taking away three items of litter every time we visit a beach or waterway.
In maths this week, we have been exploring new vocabulary and learning about what a ‘half’, a ‘quarter’ and a ‘whole’ mean.
In Year 1, this week, we have completed newspaper articles documenting the successes of Ann Glanville. We also discussed what ‘Freedom’ meant to us and wrote sentences expressing how and when we feel free.
Year 2 has been using wooden pegs to make worry dolls in art this week. We are also looking forward to our cricket tournament on Thursday. We have been exploring the life of Nelson Mandela and discussing how fortunate we are to be born free.
