Sixth Form Celebrates No.1 Ranking

Truro School Sixth Form is celebrating after the latest official Department for Education A-Level performance tables have been released, once again placing Truro School as the leading A-Level provider in Cornwall.

Commenting on this achievement, Andy Johnson, Head of Truro School paid tribute to the staff and students. He said, “We congratulate all who worked so hard to achieve this outcome. As a school, we strive to have a deeper and longer-lasting impact on the young people we have the privilege to educate than just their academic results, but those results matter, and we are extremely proud of all the students who achieved them. I am also grateful to the dedicated staff who strive to deliver the most rigorous, exciting, and empowering educational journey in the region, through our unique Diploma programme at Sixth Form, ensuring students can feel they belong and are given the opportunity to thrive.”

Ross Williamson, Head of Sixth Form at Truro School, said, “While we celebrate having the strongest A-Level outcomes in Cornwall, it’s even more important to acknowledge that these results have led to so many young adults moving on to courses, training or employment, in the UK or abroad, to pursue their ambitions. Truro School has a strong track record in supporting students to find a pathway that fits their ambitions and aspirations, and this year 84% of the cohort secured their Firm Higher and Further Education places, with 69% accepting places to Russell Group universities.

“Beyond their outstanding academic accomplishments, last year’s cohort is also significant to our School as the first graduates of our Sixth Form Diploma. A-Level success remains the academic core of the Sixth Form journey, but it has never been more important to ensure that young adults develop values and skills via experiences and opportunities that go far beyond their academic qualifications. The Diploma’s flexibility and dynamism put the sixth former and their decision-making at the centre of their journey and help them evidence their choices and achievements beyond their studies in ways that build confidence and courage for the future.”

During the recent A-Level result’s day, the father of one of last year’s Sixth Formers, Alicia, who recently started at her first choice of university studying Biomedical Sciences with a Year in Industry at Royal Holloway, told us, “While Truro School helped Alicia to bridge a gap in her academic studies, the school has developed her potential more fully and helped her to flourish as an individual. Truro School isn’t singularly focused on the academic but looks at the development of each individual as a whole person. The School Diploma is brilliant. That it can sit alongside other interests like the Duke of Edinburgh Award is fantastic. Truro School is creating valuable members of society. Companies are looking for more than just qualifications in their interviews. They want drive and ambition and a well-rounded team player. That is what this school gives to pupils here. When you pay for a service, you expect something in return. When you pay school fees, you’re guaranteed an education, but what you aren’t guaranteed is enthusiasm and engagement. But this school delivers that for every student under its care.”
