Sports Update 02.05.25

With the summer term now underway, our sporting pupils have launched into the season with energy and enthusiasm, enjoying a wide range of opportunities both in and out of school.

Big congratulations to the 1st Year pupils who took to the pool today for their first experience of the House Swimming Gala at Truro School. The year group had the opportunity to swim 25m across all strokes, with some house relays thrown in as well. Mrs Raines, Mrs Cooke and Miss Bickley would like to thank all swimmers who stepped up and represented their houses, demonstrating Truro School values of courage and confidence throughout the afternoon. Well done to Astrid and Thomas who won Victor and Victrix of the gala and Lexi and Finlay for achieving runners up. School House were victorious, taking the winning title this year! Well done to all involved.

The U14 & U15 combined hockey team enjoyed a match under the floodlights on Tuesday against Truro Hockey Club. This was a really competitive game where the hockey club claimed the victory 2-1, but it was a great learning experience for the players individually and as a team. The game was played in an excellent spirit by both sides and we hope that we will be able to do this again in the future.

Congratulations to Millie in the 3rd Year who had an excellent set of tennis results over the Easter break. Millie and her doubles partner (both aged 13) won the Ivybridge U18 doubles. Millie then travelled to Jersey to play in a Grade 3 regional level tournament. Millie reached four finals, winning the U16 singles and coming runner up in the U14 singles, U18 singles and U14 doubles. This has seen her rise 37 places in the National rankings. A fantastic achievement.

Well done to Jonny in the 3rd Year who came first in the U14 doubles at the Ivybridge Easter open with his partner over the holidays.

Congratulations to Jacob C in the 4th Year who won the U18 boys singles at Ivybridge over the Easter holidays. A fantastic achievement, especially after a champion tie break final!

We look forward to hearing how our tennis teams get on this season now the summer term has begun, with the U16 county tournament taking place next Wednesday at the Heron Tennis Centre.

Our 2nd, 3rd and 4th Year girls had a lovely day playing their 100 ball cricket cup match against Blundells. The sun was shining and some lovely wickets from Lizzie J. Blundell’s put on a great batting display to take them through to the next round. Our next cup match is on Wednesday and we look forward to seeing how the team do now the cricket season has begun.

Well done to Max, Sam and Riley in the 3rd Year who were selected for the West Cornwall Schools’ football team. They played in a three-day festival at Millfield School and playing against Blackburn, Plymouth schools, Mid Somerset, Vale of White Horse and Taunton. All three did extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts!

Over four weekends, Annie in the 2nd Year has competed in the Pool National (Cardiff) and Cornwall (Penzance) events for the Club Lifesaving Sport, competing with the best in the country. Good work Annie and good luck as you take on athletes on the beach in the summer months!
