Sixth Form Dazzle in Performance of Twelfth Night

This week’s production of Twelfth Night sparkled with the infectious energy of our Sixth Form from start to finish.

A particular highlight was the superb rapport between the actors and the phenomenal jazz combo, Silver Sax, creating a perfectly timed, electric connection between music and performance that elevated the comedy and rhythm throughout.

This particular vision of Twelfth Night was first brought to life by Director, Ben Oldfield, as part of the Birmingham International Jazz Festival in 2000. The creative decision to contrast the refined, ‘Brideshead Revisited’ England of Sebastian and Viola’s upbringing with the East Coast American jazz world of Illyria gave the setting a playful, otherworldly charm.

The original score by Frank Moon, whose extraordinary career has since seen him compose for major companies, including the Royal Opera House’s ballet version of Kafka’s Metamorphosis, infused the production with toe-tapping energy and a distinctive jazz pulse.

For many of the Sixth Formers, this performance marks their final curtain call at Truro School. As Feste poignantly sings, “But that’s all one, our play is done.” We will miss their talents immensely but look forward to welcoming them back to the stage in the future as part of our Old Truronian community.
