As the first full week of the school year got underway, so too did an exciting array of sports fixtures and training sessions across Truro School.
Last weekend our teams travelled away for hockey matches, with more fixtures continuing this week alongside rugby. On Wednesday, the 1st XI Hockey team took on Truro and Penwith College in what proved to be a fun midweek encounter.
Over the summer break, the Truro School Golf Day was held at Carlyon Bay Golf Course, bringing together 24 players including former and current pupils, parents, and teachers past and present. Played in a Texas scramble format, the winners were Harry, Piran and Charlie – congratulations to the trio, and a big thank you to Mr Hooper for once again organising such a successful event.
We also extend huge congratulations to several pupils for their individual sporting achievements over the summer:
Year 9 pupil Billy represented Cornwall at the English Schools National Athletics Championships in the Junior Boys’ 200m. Running a new PB of 23.50, Billy placed 5th in his heat and progressed to the finals, finishing 11th overall. He now ranks 1st in the South West and 29th nationally – a fantastic achievement.
Well done to Sophie and Summer, who represented the University of Exeter TA at the Talent Academy Cup, a national 3-day event for the country’s top U15–U18 hockey players. Both girls played brilliantly as Exeter won two of their three matches.
Congratulations to Harrison, who has been crowned U16 County Champion, scoring an impressive 154 (75 & 79) across two rounds to secure the title.
A big well done to Zain M, who has been offered a place in the Plymouth Argyle U14 squad for the 2025/26 season. An exciting step forward in his footballing journey.
Perran represented the U14 London United Basketball Club at the prestigious Future Stars Tournament, playing under the guidance of ex-professional Elvisi Dusha. His team defeated the U14 England National Team on their way to the final, eventually finishing runners-up to Italian side Stella Azzurra. This season, Perran will continue his journey with the Cornwall Saracens U16s in the Basketball England National League.
