It’s been another action-packed few weeks for Truro School Sport, with pupils representing the School and the region in competitions across the country. From national rugby tournaments and judo medals to outstanding performances in football and golf, our teams and individuals continue to demonstrate commitment, skill, and school spirit. Back home, Wednesday fixtures brought a brilliant array of hockey, rugby, and netball matches – well done to everyone who took part and represented Truro School so proudly.
St Joseph’s College National Fifteen-a-Side Rugby Festival
On Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October, Truro School’s U15 rugby side travelled to Ipswich to compete in the prestigious St Joseph’s College National Fifteen-a-Side Rugby Festival. After a ten-hour journey, the excitement of representing the school at one of the country’s top schoolboy rugby tournaments was palpable. The festival featured two days of high-level competition, with five matches against some of the strongest rugby schools in England, many boasting academy and England prospects of the future.
Day One brought three fiercely contested 24-minute matches against Woodhouse Grove, Seaford College and Canford School. All fixtures were streamed live by NextGen Rugby, and Truro impressed spectators and commentators alike with their skill, teamwork and determination. Narrow defeats to Woodhouse Grove (10–8) and Seaford (10–7) were followed by an emphatic 26–7 victory over Canford, securing third place in a group they were unlucky not to top.
Day Two tested the team’s resilience, with fatigue setting in after the intensity of the opening day. Despite creating opportunities to win both matches, Truro fell narrowly short against Felsted (7–3) and Finborough (10–7), finishing 12th overall in the festival.
While results didn’t fully reflect the quality of their performances, the experience proved invaluable. The players showed tremendous character and represented Truro School with pride throughout an unforgettable weekend. A huge thank you goes to all staff, parents and pupils for their support, and special recognition to Mr Whitmore, Mr Lea and Head of Rugby Mr Excell for organising such a fantastic experience.
National Rugby Success:
Congratulations to Lamorna and her U18 teammates, who triumphed at the National Army Cadet Rugby Tournament, winning the Cup for the South West Cadet Force. Following her standout performances at the regional competition last month, Lamorna earned selection to represent the South West. Their consistency and unity saw them crowned Senior Girls (U18) National Champions 2025. An incredible achievement.
Football:
Over the half-term break, Max M and Billy E (Year 10) proudly represented ISFA England in a prestigious match against Arsenal U15 Academy, held at Arsenal’s Training Centre in North London. Competing at this level is a fantastic honour – congratulations to both pupils on this outstanding achievement!
Judo:
Congratulations to Guy (Year 8) for his success at the recent Development Judo Groups Competition in Plymstock, representing Kazoku Judo Academy and Truro School Sport. His coach, Eva Minarikova, praised the team’s progress, saying: “Every single boy showed new skills and even competed in new weight categories. Guy is a new judoka who represented the club and Truro School superbly. He had two tough opponents but finished in the bronze position.” A brilliant achievement, well done Guy!
Golf:
Congratulations to Evelyn L, who has enjoyed an excellent year on the golf course, winning several tournaments including the Truro Junior Open in September. A superb achievement, well done Evelyn!
Midweek Fixtures:
This week’s Wednesday matches saw a fantastic range of fixtures across hockey, rugby and netball, with pupils showing excellent teamwork, effort and sportsmanship throughout. Well done to all involved!
