It has been a successful week for our sporting pupils, including our U16 girls’ hockey team, who have made history!
Hockey:
The U16 girls’ hockey team have made history by becoming the first team in Truro School’s history to reach the National Schools Hockey Final, after winning the T3 regional finals.
The team’s achievement is truly the tip of a very big iceberg, as there has been so much work and support that has gone on over the years from the players, as well as parents and coaches. This group of players has shown great dedication to their hockey, with many of them playing for Truro and Falmouth hockey clubs, as well as representing the Cornwall County team. Grace N and Summer R are also part of the Exeter Talent Academy squad, with Summer being selected for the 2025-26 England U16 squad.
The girls have inspired each other to become better players, and their individual and group development came together beautifully at the tournament. A huge thank you must go to all the coaches who have been involved with this group over the years, from the Prep School where many of them started their hockey journey, to club, county & TA coaches, as well as the coaching staff at Truro School.
Head of Hockey, Miss Cobner, said, “I could not be prouder of this group of players. Whilst the result was amazing, the way they did it really impressed me. There was a moment where it looked like they might not make the semi-finals, but the girls all showed great resilience and dug deep to find a way to make it happen. Everyone who has been part of their hockey journey should share in this incredible achievement, and we can’t wait to take them to the National Finals!”
Netball:
This weekend, our netball 1st Team, the Truro School Phoenix, took to the courts in their U19 County Tournament. The team led by Captain Jaz responded brilliantly to fast-paced play throughout the tournament, achieving runners-up and qualifications to the South West Regionals next year!
The team faced Budehaven first, securing a solid win of 9 – 0. Well done to Elodie (GA), Matilda (GS), and Bella (GS), who demonstrated consistent and strong shooting in the circle. Truro School had a hard-fought match against Callywith College. The team was able to settle in the second half, with fantastic defensive turn-overs by Jaz (GK), Evie (GD) and Bethany (WD), winning 8-4. Truro College were up next, despite close margins, Truro School had their first defeat, 10-5.
Our Phoenix faced Penwith College in the deciding match for qualification. All team players worked extremely hard, building throughout the game and remaining focused on ball movements, leading to an 11-5 win! Our Centre court players, Wendy (C) and Lydia (WA), worked tirelessly to send controlled and strong feeds into the circle. With Ella (WD) securing influential turnovers in the second half.
A huge congratulations to the following players:
Year 13: Captain Jaz (GK), Ella (WD), Matilda (GA/GS/WA) and Bella (GS)
Year 12: Lydia (C/ WA), Elodie (GA/GS)and Bethany (WD)
A huge thank you to Year 11 Wendy (C/WA) and Year 10 Evie (GD), who stepped in to help the team achieve the qualification.
Mrs Tresidder and Miss Bickley are very grateful for all of the hard work and effort the team have demonstrated this term, including Tilly R and Mabel, who helped support the team in training for the tournament. We look forward to hearing how the team get on at Regionals in the Spring Term.
Tennis:
Congratulations to Jonny C, who won the South and South West tour tournament at the South Devon Tennis Centre on the 15th November. Jonny has had some hard games that went to a tiebreak a few times, but he battled back for an impressive win!
