Senior Sports Round-Up 19.09.25

It’s been a superb start to the season across our sports teams, with pupils showcasing skill, resilience, and teamwork both on home ground and further afield, including nail-biting netball victories, summer tennis triumphs, international basketball success, and strong performances in hockey and rugby.

Hockey – A mixed-age Truro School hockey team recently competed in the Sherborne Girls Invitational Tournament. The squad produced some excellent results, securing hard-fought victories over King’s College Taunton and Wells. They also relished the challenge of facing highly drilled sides from KES Southampton and Canford. What a fantastic way to start the season. A special thanks to Mrs Wyatt and Mr Opie for their coaching and support.

Netball – Our netball squads have been off to a flying start in the Sisters ‘n Sport National Cup:

U14s – Played excellently with a nail-biting 28-26 win over Penryn College. Every squad member played a key role in this superb result.
U15s – Followed up with a brilliant 35-29 win over Penrice Academy. After a dominant first half, Penrice pulled within a single goal, but our team showed resilience and unity to secure victory. Huge thanks to Mrs Mulready for coaching and Miss Bickley for umpiring.
U13s – Took to the court for their first National Cup fixture against Truro High. In a closely contested match, the scoreline was within two goals heading into the final quarter, but the team narrowly missed out on progression by just four goals. A fantastic first outing nonetheless!
We now look ahead to the U18s Cup match on Monday and the U16s on Wednesday.

Tennis – Over the summer, Truro School tennis players achieved incredible success across county and national competitions:

Jacob C (Year 11) – U18 Boys Doubles Cornwall Champion, U16 Boys Singles Champion, and U16 Boys Doubles Runner-up.
Jonny C (Year 10) – Penzance Open Boys Doubles Runner-up and Atlantic Racket Centre U14 Singles Runner-up.
Millie N (Year 10) – Represented Heron Tennis Centre at the National Club League Finals, finishing 5th nationally. She also secured multiple county titles, including U14 Singles Champion and U16 Doubles Champion, as well as victories at the Penzance Open and Newquay Heron Summer Open.
A huge well done to Jacob, Jonny, and Millie for their outstanding achievements, and thank you to Mr Askey for the updates.

Basketball – Congratulations to Perran L, who recently represented the U14 London United Basketball Club at the prestigious Future Stars Tournament at Brunel University, London. Perran, one of just three South West players selected, trained under ex-professional Elvisi Dusha and helped his team defeat the U14 England National Team before finishing runners-up to Italian giants Stella Azzurra. This season, Perran will continue his journey representing the Cornwall Saracens U16s in the Basketball England National League. Fantastic achievement, Perran!

Rugby – On Wednesday, our rugby teams travelled to Redruth for a friendly fixture in perfect playing conditions. The boys all showed superb skill and team spirit. Thank you to Redruth School for hosting!

An incredible week of sport across so many disciplines. Well done to all our pupils, coaches, and staff for their efforts and achievements.
