Our sports pupils have shown outstanding hard work and commitment this week, resulting in some remarkable achievements. Here are some of their stories:
Hockey: Congratulations to Summer R, who has been selected into the U16 England Hockey Squad for 2025-2026. After lots of determination, Summer was shortlisted to just 36 girls earlier this month, before being selected this week! We look forward to sharing more of her story as her journey continues – well done, Summer!
GB events: Over five days of intense competition in Antalya, Turkey, students Daisy, Dan, and Naomi delivered outstanding performances while representing Great Britain in the Laser Run, Triathle, and Biathle events. Competing against highly skilled international athletes, all three demonstrated exceptional resilience, discipline, and competitive spirit. Across the programme of events, each athlete secured medals, showcasing both their individual strengths and their commitment to sustained training. Their achievements not only highlight their personal dedication but also stand as a source of pride for the school and the wider community.
Representing Great Britain on the international stage is an accomplishment in itself; to return with medals across multiple disciplines underscores the calibre of these athletes. We congratulate Daisy, Dan, and Naomi on their success and commend them for their exemplary conduct and sporting excellence throughout the competition.
Rugby: We celebrated a brilliant performance from the Year 7 rugby team at the West Cornwall Schools Rugby Festival. The team showed outstanding teamwork, empathy and resilience throughout the day to go unbeaten and top a tough group phase against Penryn, Redruth and Hayle, setting up a decider against a strong Penair side. After observing a minute’s silence, fantastically led by Mr Williamson from Richard Lander. The pupils finished in style, winning 3-0, scoring some outstanding tries in the process. A huge well done to Archie, Arthur, George, Rory, Jenson, Otis, Jessie, Reggie, Digby, Woody, Will, Leo, Seth, Torin and Sam.
Tennis: After winning the Cornwall stage of the Years 9 & 10 LTA National Tennis Championships, the girls went on to beat Maynard School (Exeter), which qualified them for the Regionals held at Taunton Tennis Club. The team of Millie, Evie, Martha, Evie and Tilly came 4th in the region after losing to Dean Close (Dorset) and Chew Valley (Bristol). Mr Askey and Mrs Holmer were especially impressed with Millie for dominating in her 2 singles victories. Martha and Tilly for only just missing out a nail-biting doubles win after having a match point. Evie N for competing well in a close singles vs Chew Valley, Evie F for playing superb serves and groundstrokes in her singles loss to Chew Valley. Mr Askey, Truro School’s Head Tennis Coach, had this to say: “I can’t remember a better team spirit and collective effort, both in terms of their competing in the matches and supporting off court! What a pleasure it was for me and Mrs Homer, Team Captain. Special thanks as always to Miss Bickley for her organising and logistics.”
