Prep Sports Round Up 27.02.26

It has been another busy and successful week of sport at Truro Prep, with our pupils demonstrating determination, teamwork and excellent sportsmanship across netball, swimming and cross-country.

Our Year 6 netballers took a trip to the Senior School for a match against their Year 7 peers. It was a great opportunity for our oldest Prep pupils to experience what sport is like at the Senior School ahead of their transition in September. There was some excellent, competitive play and great camaraderie shown across the board, making it a valuable and enjoyable fixture for all involved.

On Thursday, 26th February, we took swimmers from Year 5 and 6 to compete in the IAPS Swimming Qualifying Round. Despite an early start, the team showed great enthusiasm and excitement for the day ahead.

We arrived in good time, allowing the swimmers to settle in, familiarise themselves with the pool environment and complete a thorough warm-up before the competition began. The swimmers represented the school with excellent behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the event.

All swimmers showed determination and resilience in a highly competitive field, with many producing personal best performances. It was particularly pleasing to see the swimmers supporting one another and demonstrating a strong sense of team spirit. The standard of swimming was extremely high, and our swimmers rose to the challenge admirably. Several strong performances were recorded across the different strokes and distances, and the experience will be valuable preparation for future competitions.

The swimmers were a credit to the school both in and out of the water, and we are very proud of their efforts. The results will be posted in the swimming pool foyer once the school has received them. The top 20 swimmers nationally in each event will be invited to attend the finals in London at the O2.

Earlier in the week, twenty-three runners, three members of staff, a box of fruit and a bottle of water made their way to Richard Lander for the rearranged Peninsula Cross-Country Qualifier, following its postponement before half-term. More than two hundred runners from Years 4, 5 and 6 took part, creating an exciting and competitive afternoon of running. The Prep School camp was in high spirits and, after a briefing at the start line from Miss Chapman and Mrs Luxton, the races began.

First up were the Year 4 girls, with Nola, Grace, Winnie and Rose charging around the course. Nola blitzed her way around the one-lap course, leaving the other runners in her wake and crossing the line in 1st place – what a start! It proved to be a highly successful afternoon all round as Rocco, Alfie and Josh secured a 1, 2, 3 for the Year 4 boys, with Max finishing just outside the top 10.

The success continued in the Year 5 races. Mabel (2nd), Isabella (3rd) and Lowenna ran superbly in the girls’ race before Jack, Rafe and Sandy completed another 1, 2, 3 in the boys’ event. Henry, James and Edward finished inside the top seven, with Christopher just outside the top 10.

The rain began to fall just as Sienna took to the start line for the Year 6 girls’ race, but that did not stop her from leading from start to finish. In the Year 6 boys’ race, Rohan, Samuel, Alex and Ollie also ran well in a strong field.

Out of our 23 runners, 17 qualified for the Peninsula Sports Partnership Finals at Camborne Science and International Academy next Tuesday, a fantastic achievement.

A huge well done to all pupils who represented the school this week. Their commitment, resilience and team spirit continue to make us incredibly proud.
