It has been a busy and exciting few weeks for sport at Truro School Prep, with pupils representing the school across a range of competitions and fixtures.
Last week, the Prep football team travelled to Clifton to compete in the ISFA U11 Sevens South West Tournament. The team delivered a spirited performance against strong opposition, recording one win, two draws, and one loss, narrowly missing out on a semi-final place. Every player contributed positively, and the experience will undoubtedly strengthen the team moving forward. Well done to all involved.
On Friday, 6th March, our Year 6 boys headed to Penzance Astro Park for the County Hockey Qualifier. Facing a competitive group of teams, many of whom were physically bigger and more experienced, the boys rose impressively to the challenge, finishing 3rd overall.
There were strong performances across the squad. Henry Chru had an excellent tournament, growing into his defensive role and making several crucial interventions against tough opposition. Henry Chri also contributed well, supporting the team effectively in both defence and attack. In goal, Kai made a number of outstanding saves, showing great bravery and composure to keep the team in contention throughout.
Freddy’s confidence grew as the day progressed, using the wings effectively and making a positive impact in attack. James brought consistent energy and commitment to every match, proving to be a reliable presence throughout. Freddie impressed with his communication and leadership on the pitch, alongside making strong attacking runs and contributing defensively. Jack used his pace to create attacking opportunities while also working hard in defence. Sandy maintained high energy levels from start to finish, producing excellent moments in both attack and defence and growing in confidence as the tournament went on.
The team was superbly supported by an enthusiastic group of parents on the sidelines, and, combined with the lovely weather, it made for an enjoyable and memorable day of hockey.
This week, we were delighted to welcome Archbishop Benson to the Prep School for a series of friendly football fixtures. For some pupils, this was their first experience of competitive football, and there was great effort and enthusiasm across all of our boys’, girls’ and mixed teams.
There were plenty of goals across the four pitches, with all teams developing their decision-making skills, learning when to pass, dribble or shoot. Rex, Theo, Eddie, Archie and Ernie worked tirelessly against a strong and skilful side, while Hattie and Pippa were standout performers in the girls’ match. Henry P scored a couple of excellent goals in a high-scoring game, and Will G provided a memorable moment with an impressive dribble up the pitch from his position as goalkeeper. Otis, Clemmie and Atti also worked hard for their teams throughout the afternoon.
There were valuable lessons learned, as well as plenty of smiles and moments to celebrate. Well done to all the players, and thank you to the spectators from both schools for creating such a supportive and positive atmosphere.
The week concluded with the annual U11 Netball Festival at Truro High School, held in beautiful sunshine and a vibrant setting. The event had a wonderful buzz, with teams warming up, chatting and enjoying the occasion, creating a fantastic atmosphere for all involved.
Our girls made an excellent start in the morning session. Across five pool games, they demonstrated superb teamwork, quick movement and determination, securing three wins and two draws. This unbeaten run earned them a place in the top-tier Cup competition in the afternoon, an outstanding and well-deserved achievement.
The afternoon brought tougher, well-organised opposition, but the girls continued to rise to the challenge. They matched their opponents for speed, energy and defensive pressure, often controlling the flow of play. Despite creating numerous chances, shooting luck was not always on their side, with several attempts narrowly missing. However, their effort and teamwork never faltered.
A standout strength of the team was their versatility, with players confidently taking on a range of positions and supporting one another throughout. Their encouragement, resilience and positivity were evident in every match.
Finishing 4th overall out of twelve teams, the girls achieved a fantastic result and ended the season on a high note. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts and accomplishments.
