Prep Sports Round Up 17.10.25

It has been a busy end to the first half of term, with plenty of sporting action both locally and further afield.

Our Truro Prep U11A team kicked off their competitive football season with an impressive win over Mount Hawke. The players showed a real commitment to a passing game, and the hard work that has been put in during training was evident. Three goals from Rohan, and one apiece for Albie and Oscar, were the reward for a great team performance. While there is still plenty to learn, it was a brilliant start to the league fixtures.

Our U11Bs also had a great result in their friendly against Mount Hawke. There were some truly impressive performances, and none more so than Theo W, who put himself on the map with all seven goals. Well done to both teams. We look forward to watching your progress across the season.

In hockey, our Year 5 girls travelled to Truro High School for what turned out to be a memorable afternoon of sport and teamwork. We were proud and delighted to have taken all of our Year 5 girls, allowing everyone to represent the school, gain experience, and enjoy playing in front of parents and carers who had come to support.

This inclusive decision meant that every pupil, from seasoned players to complete newcomers, had valuable time on the pitch. Although the final scoreline wasn’t in our favour, the game reflected the confidence, enthusiasm, and togetherness that our players displayed throughout the afternoon.

There were many standout performances across the team. Charlotte, Mabel, and Harleen shone with confident attacking play, showing real flair and creativity going forward. In defence, Daisy and Coco were composed and resilient, making some excellent interceptions under pressure. And special mention must go to Alice and Poppy F, who threw themselves wholeheartedly into the action, undaunted and determined in their first taste of competitive hockey.

Every player should feel proud of how they represented Truro School: with positivity and teamwork. A big thank you to Truro High for hosting us and to the parents who came along for an afternoon full of learning, growth, and plenty to celebrate.

The Year 6 girls were also in action on the hockey pitch, with a trip up to Tavistock to play Mount Kelly and Plymouth College on Wednesday afternoon.

We split into two teams to maximise game time for all players. The Blues’ first game was against Plymouth College, with the girls growing in confidence as the match progressed and starting to spread the ball wide. After a tight 15-minute game, it finished 0-0. The Blues’ second game was against a strong Mount Kelly team, who were using the afternoon as a warm-up for a fixture against Millfield on Thursday. The girls defended with a fantastic determination, and with Evie having the game of her life in goal, it looked like it was going to end goalless, until, with just 30 seconds to go, Mount Kelly found a free attacker at the back post, who finished coolly into the corner.

The Pink team had an extended game against Mount Kelly; the team grew in confidence throughout the game, using the space of the large pitch. The highlight of the game was Connie scoring a wonder goal and an outstanding performance from Endelyn, who donned the goalkeeper’s kit for the first time.

In Rugby, our U10s got off to a rocky start after a long coach journey and an error-strewn warm-up against Mount Kelly. Fortunately, the team responded positively and competed well in the first half, helped by some great individual tries from several of the players. By the second half, the team was tackling more effectively and supporting the ball carrier much better, resulting in some very pleasing team tries as well as more impressive individual tries. Whilst the score was not recorded, the team could be confident that, at the very least, they matched Mount Kelly’s skill and played some very entertaining rugby. Well done to Zander, Freddie, Thomas, Boe, Archer, Rafe, Ollie, Kaleem, Christopher, Robbie, Henry, and Sandy.

Also in action were our U11 Rugby team, consisting of Samuel, Rupert, Oscar, Rohan, Arlo, Edward, Will, Emir, Harry, Ollie, Ray, and Barney, who warmed up quickly and were slow out of the blocks in the first quarter. Initially, the opposition’s physicality and ability to move the ball between players made it difficult for the Truro team to make any headway. However, as the quarters progressed, it was evident that the players were gaining in confidence and beginning to grasp the skills and attributes needed to put up a fight and compete with the talented Mount Kelly team – and compete they did, even bringing some tactical kicking into the game!

Harry and Ollie were true leaders, demonstrating relentless hard work and positive running in attack and defence. There were also moments of power from Edward S and some great tackling from Ray and Will. Barney linked the play well from the ‘forwards’ to the ‘backs’, and it was great to see the little grubber kick used well! Samuel ran hard and began to pass the ball before contact which added a new dimension to his play; Rohan and Emir were tricky runners when in space; Arlo grew in confidence with each minute, looking to pass quickly and he made one of the tackles of the day on an opposing player and Rupert was quick to support any player on the ground, lifting the ball quickly and giving it to the nearest Truro player. Oscar was more effective when he carried the ball in two hands and looked to go into space, and scored some good tries. Well done, everyone, and onto Sherborne after half-term!
