Prep Sports Round Up 05.12.25

It has been another busy week for sports at Truro School Prep, with action on the netball court and football pitch.

On Wednesday afternoon, some of the U10 and U11 girls travelled to Truro High School for an afternoon of netball. This fixture aimed to provide the girls with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of playing in a real game situation. It was designed to be both friendly and competitive, allowing them to put into practice the skills they have been developing in training while enjoying the experience of match play.

In games sessions and training, the Year 6 girls have been focusing on passing the ball ahead of the player so that teammates can receive the ball while on the move. This skill was demonstrated effectively throughout the game, with several flowing passages of play where the ball was moved quickly and accurately down the court. Their ability to anticipate movement and deliver passes into space showed great progress and gave them a strong attacking presence.

The Year 5 girls have been working on signalling where they want the ball, which helped their teammates to make confident passing decisions within the games. In addition, they worked hard in defence, watching the path of the ball carefully and looking to intercept passes, especially around the circle edge. This defensive awareness enabled them to put pressure on the opposition and limit scoring opportunities. Their communication in attack and determination in defence highlighted their growing confidence and teamwork.

Players of the Match, awarded by the opposition, went to Audrey for her effortless shooting and to Lowenna for her tireless defensive work.

The fixture was a valuable learning experience for both year groups. The Year 6 girls showed maturity in their attacking play, while the Year 5 girls demonstrated growing confidence in both communication and defensive positioning. Together, they created a competitive yet supportive environment that highlighted their teamwork and enthusiasm for the game.

Netball Club will continue to be on Monday lunchtimes (1.00-1.30pm) and Wednesdays (4-5pm), with all Year 5 and 6 children welcome to attend.

Our incredible Year 2 footballers were also in action on Wednesday. After a positive first fixture a few weeks ago, the rest of the children in our Year 2 football club had their opportunity to represent the school in their first-ever fixture. As last time, it was a fantastic opportunity for our children to try out the skills they learned in our after-school club. There was lots of great teamwork, wonderful dribbling and some great goals by both teams. Thank you to Archbishop Benson for being such a brilliant opponent.
