Following on from an al-fresco woodland party, our wonderful Nursery pupils invited their families for a shared celebration of our incredible Forest School spaces at Truro School Pre-Prep.
Led by Mrs Stableforth, Forest School plays a fundamental role in our Pre-Prep curriculum. Outdoor learning, combined with both structured and unstructured play, is crucial for the development of young children as it holistically supports their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
Structured play offers opportunities to build specific skills such as problem-solving, cooperation, and language development, while unstructured play encourages creativity, independence, and resilience. Being outdoors enhances these benefits by engaging children’s senses, promoting physical activity, and fostering a connection with nature. Together, these experiences lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.
We are extremely proud of the extensive outdoor spaces we provide for pupils at Truro School Pre-Prep. Our Forest School includes a willow maze, mud kitchen, musical instruments and an area for stories and snacks around a fire. Our lucky Pre-Prep children have ample opportunities to explore and enjoy these areas, with our Reception and Nursery classrooms opening up into our outdoor classrooms. Outdoor learning truly is an intrinsic and seamless part of our teaching and learning programme.
It was a joy to welcome our families to explore our Forest School, and it was wonderful to see our confident and courageous pupils leading their loved ones by the hand and sharing their learning and adventures together.
A huge thank you to all of our pupils and their families and to our incredible Pre-Prep staff who make these experiences possible.
