Medals for Kazoku Judo Championships

Truro School and Truro School Prep entered a skilled team of judoka in the Kazoku Championships Red and Yellow Belt Future Olympic Hopes competition last Sunday in Porthtowan.

Teams from all over Cornwall and Devon competed over a full day and our pupils did extremely well, showing signs of building a strong team again after the lull of the pandemic.

Both students from Truro School secured Gold in their weight categories producing maximum Ippon scores in all their fights. Ben dispatched all his opponents in style, followed by Andrew winning Gold with the throw of the day in his final.

Meanwhile, the Prep students were not to be outdone and all finished the day bemedalled. For many, this was their first competition so this result was all the more impressive.

Rupert and Niamh gained Gold, with great Judo. Niamh gained a further Silver medal, having agreed to step up to an extra weight group. Casper won Silver and was very unlucky not to win Gold. Charlie and Ellie completed the Silver trail in style while Archie, Rory, and Miles completed the haul of medals with well-earned Bronzes.

It was a fantastic day and wonderful to see the pupils representing Truro School with excellent skill and compassion shown in equal measure. We look forward to sharing their future success with you soon.

With thanks to Mr Piper for the photos and report.
