Over 40 pupils from local primary schools were welcomed to Truro School Prep for an exciting Maths Enrichment Day.
Throughout the event pupils explored complex concepts through engaging activities, including curve sketching and coding. Designed with varying levels of difficulty, these tasks stretched problem-solving skills while promoting creative thinking. The curve sketching session was a particular highlight, blending maths and art to create beautiful patterns from straight lines. Historically done by sewing onto paper, pupils instead used pencil marks to form intricate designs.
Working in mixed-school teams, pupils were supported by our own Year 6 helpers, who played a key role throughout the day. A huge thank you goes to Miles, Alex, Scott, Lissie, Tilda, Ellie, Eleanor, Matilda, and Flossie for being fantastic hosts and assistants. Their kindness, teamwork, and encouragement helped make the event a success.
In addition to all the mathematical fun, visiting pupils enjoyed a delicious Prep lunch and time outdoors in the sunshine. Breaktime was full of laughter and play, with new friendships forming as children explored the school fields, climbed trees, and enjoyed the play equipment.
At the end of the day, everyone contributed their work to a giant Fibonacci Spiral, which took centre stage on the floor of Lovett Hall. Additional sketches were displayed on surrounding boards for parents and guardians to enjoy with refreshments.
Reflecting on the day, Deputy Head, Mr Frewer said: “The standard of work has been phenomenal. I hope that all pupils will return to their schools inspired, ready to share what they’ve learned about coding, secret messages, and mathematical keys.”
A huge thank you to all the pupils and teachers who joined us, our Year 6 helpers, and a very special thank you to Miss Ryder, who organised and hosted the event – thank you!
