The music classrooms were filled with a cacophony of joyful noise this afternoon as some of our Year 7 pupils received their new musical instruments. In Year 7, pupils have two music lessons each week, with sessions designed to be fun and engaging. There is an emphasis on practical music-making, with pupils being encouraged to compose, improvise and perform.
From September, one of the Year 7 music lessons every week is devoted to Truro School’s Instrumental Scheme. This scheme gives pupils the opportunity to experience first-hand the joy of learning an orchestral instrument. Those who are already learning an orchestral instrument are placed in chamber groups with pupils of a similar skill level and assigned a professional coach.
With trumpet, keyboard and cello amongst those on offer, pupils will hone their skills across the year and perform to their peers and families in the Gala Concert in June.
