GCSE Geographers Investigate Truro’s High Street

Year 10 Geography GCSE pupils took to the streets of Truro to explore how the city has evolved over time as part of their Paper 3 studies. Equipped with questionnaires and cameras, pupils conducted bi-polar environmental surveys, comparing modern-day locations to photographs from the 1890s.

The investigation revealed that, despite changes, Truro has retained its role as a retail centre.

Pupils also engaged with the local community, gathering opinions on how the city has changed and asking residents to describe these changes in a single word. These responses were then transformed into word clouds, bringing the voices of Truro residents vividly to life.

The pupils were exceptionally well-behaved throughout the trip, showing maturity and enthusiasm while collecting data. A huge thank you goes to the Geography team for organising and supervising the visit, ensuring it was both educational and enjoyable for all.
