Discovering Dor Kemmyn

Year 6 pupils have visited ‘Dor Kemmyn’ at Penmount, Truro, with Rev Helen.

Dor Kemmyn is a multi-faith, inter-spiritual centre in Cornwall, which provides a sacred and peaceful space for worship and dialogue for all faiths and spiritual communities. The site is a project of ‘Cornwall Faith Forum’, who aim to bring together people from various faith and belief communities in Cornwall to promote understanding, education, and peace. This is exactly what our Year 6 pupils witnessed, as they met representatives from different faith communities, including Quaker, Jewish, Muslim, Baha’i, and Humanist communities.

The children enjoyed visiting the 17 peace poles, some from 7 faith groups and others from partner organisations in Cornwall. The poles display the message ‘let there be peace on earth’ in five different languages and offer a glorious ‘welcome’ to those of all faiths.

The site is called ‘Dor Kemmyn’ or ‘Dorkemmyn’, which means ‘common ground’. Rev Helen has said, “The visit was a great way to explore and celebrate the common ground shared between different faith communities here in Cornwall. We hope to be able to visit with other year groups as this provided an excellent opportunity to see the peace poles and meet members of our diverse community”.
