As part of the GCSE Religious Studies unit on Relationships and Families, our 4th Year pupils recently planned and hosted a beautifully thoughtful mock wedding. Held during Pride Month, the event reflected our Methodist values of acceptance and inclusion, and offered a creative, hands-on way to explore the themes of marriage and family life in Christianity and Islam.
The ceremony began with the traditional wedding march, played on the organ, setting a joyful tone. Two brides exchanged vows in the school chapel, followed by a homily, heartfelt readings, and moving speeches. The pupils took great care in planning every detail, from the order of service to the music and decorations.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued with a reception in the classroom, where pupils had prepared sandwiches and refreshments. More speeches were given in honour of the happy couple, and the atmosphere was filled with warmth and celebration.
This engaging project brought to life key topics from the GCSE syllabus, including the meaning and purpose of marriage, the nature of families, and different types of relationships. It was a wonderful example of learning through experience, and a testament to the creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm of our pupils.
Special thanks to our organist, readers, and everyone who contributed to making the event such a success. Well done to all the planners and participants!
