Pupils have reflected on environmental issues and how to support our planet during this week’s ‘Charity Week’ initiative.
Earth Day, celebrated annually on 22 April since 1970, served as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for the environment, and formed the theme of a series of chapel assemblies, presented by the Eco Committee.
On Friday 1 May, pupils marked a charity “own clothes” day, raising funds for eco-charities. The day also coincided with Vesak, a significant Buddhist festival celebrating the life of Buddha, highlighting the importance of living in harmony with each other and the natural world.
Over the last few months, our Eco Committee have been supporting ‘Power of 10’, a charity encouraging small, everyday actions—such as reducing waste, recycling, and saving energy—to make a meaningful environmental impact. The initiative also provided a digital community for young people to connect, share ideas, and take action on climate issues.
The Eco Committee have taken practical steps within the school, including introducing battery recycling points, promoting sustainable purchasing, encouraging the use of Ecosia to plant trees through online searches, monitoring energy use, and supporting sustainably sourced food.
They are currently collecting old calculators to recycle amongst younger pupils and would like to extend an invite to families to take part in the beach clean at Fistral Beach on 10 May, bringing the community together to make a positive difference.
