The talented Cathedral Choristers headed off on an unforgettable journey to Amsterdam over the summer holiday.
Their adventure began with a Eurostar ride to Rotterdam, followed by a scenic coach trip to The Hague, where they stayed for five days of exploration and performances.
The choristers explored the underwater world at Sea Life Scheveningen, encountered exotic animals at Amsterdam Zoo, and were captivated by the optical illusions at the Escher Museum. They also visited the Planetarium for an immersive tour through the cosmos and feasted at the Hard Rock Café.
The group immersed themselves in local cities and culture, starting in Rotterdam, where they visited the stunning Laurenskerk and couldn’t resist singing beneath its extraordinarily acoustic tower. They viewed the Cube Houses and explored the indoor food Markthal. Next, they headed to Strijen, a village south of Rotterdam, where they were welcomed by a warm and friendly community. In Amsterdam, they explored the city and climbed the tower of the Nieuwe Kerk. Finally, they travelled to Delft and boarded a boat, where their guide navigated a complex network of canals, squeezing under low bridges. The boat trip offered the choristers a fascinating insight into the city’s rich history as a centre of royalty, industry, and education.
During the tour, the choir was honoured to perform concerts at Scheveningen Oude Kerk and rehearse at the Co-Cathedral Basilica of St Nicholas, before singing Evensong as part of Muziek in de Nicolaas at the Basilica. Their final performance took place at Maria van Jessekerk, a stunning venue in Amsterdam. Each concert was filled with a wonderful atmosphere, held in incredible buildings, and warmly received by enthusiastic audiences. During their downtime, the boys enjoyed a game of football and played on the beach.
Having jetted back to the UK, the choristers met up again for a day of adventures for the start-of-the-year 8-13 Choristers’ excursion to Kernow Adventure Park for more fun and team-building.
A heartfelt thank you to Mr Osmond, Mrs Issaka, Mrs McLachlan, and Mrs Gregory for their support throughout the tour, and a huge well done to all the pupils who represented Truro School and Truro Cathedral with pride.
