Old Truronian Lynette Carveth CO84 returned to Truro School in early October to lead an exclusive singing masterclass for six of our gifted and dedicated Chorister pupils. With a career spanning opera houses and concert stages across Europe and beyond, from the Royal Opera House chorus in Madrid to leading roles with companies across Spain, Lynette brought a wealth of world-class expertise straight to our students, offering invaluable guidance and inspiration to complement their current teaching.
Lynette delivered a plethora of helpful advice on breathing and performance techniques, vocal range, and pronunciation, along with tips for singing in different languages and the importance of understanding the meaning behind the songs they were practising.
Lynette has led an incredibly accomplished career. After leaving Truro School she trained at the Royal Academy of Music, specialising in Opera and Jazz, before building an international career as a soprano. After working as a freelance concert singer, she moved to Madrid in 1993, spending 12 years in the chorus of the Teatro Real while also performing solo roles including Mimì, Dido and Nedda. In 2004, she founded Caprici Arte y Música, bringing opera and zarzuela to new audiences, and she now runs choirs in Valencia, performs with the Baroque ensemble Diletto Ensamble and gives masterclasses internationally. She is proud to be Vice-President of the Truro Male Voice Choir. You can read a full biography of her career on the School website here.
Well done to Hugo P, Tristan G, Tom H and Prep choristers Freyja O, Lowena G and James S for taking part, and for being such eager and willing students.
