Prep Sports Round Up 16.10.26

It has been another busy week for sports at Truro School Prep and a super end to this first half of the term.

South West Biathlon Qualifier at Taunton School, 11.10.26

Open to anyone who wanted to have a go, the qualifier saw seven Prep School runners and swimmers travel along the M5 to compete against pupils from schools and clubs across the South West. Jack, Mabel, Harriet, Rory, Freddie, Arlo and Tommy tackled a 400m or 800m run and a 25m or 50m swim, depending on age group, with points awarded on their times. As the events were run in heats, the focus was on each individual doing their best, and every Prep pupil achieved that through grit, determination and an abundance of skill in the pool and on the track.

U10 and U11 Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala at Truro School Senior, 12.10.26

Year 5 and 6 pupils made the short trip to the Senior School to swim against Archbishop Benson and Truro High School, which was a first gala for some. Prep staff kept the pupils busy with traditional relays, individual events and board racing, while parents on poolside enjoyed some excellent, competitive races. Well done to Ella C, Mabel L, Polly S, Coco T, Kai W, Freddy W, Teddy J, Hugo V, Zack P, Reuben F, Wilbo A, Max B, Ryann G, Isobel R, Grace P and Kaia E, who all performed admirably.

U10 Rugby v Truro High School, 14.10.26

The U10s hosted Truro High School in an exciting fixture full of fun, skills and learning opportunities. The sides were evenly matched, with the physicality of the Truro High team countered by the handling skills of the Prep School team. Highlights included Harry M’s thumping tackles, Theo moving the ball from side to side, and the direct and evasive running of Zack, Harry B and William. There was a lightbulb moment when the double try scoring system came in, and the group realised that the faster the ball is moved into space, the more tries are scored and the less chance there is of being tackled. Plenty of spectators enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of running rugby.

U11 Rugby v Plymouth College, 14.10.26

On a balmy mid-October afternoon, the U11s took on a physical and determined Plymouth College side on a superb Prep field. A squad of 16 players rotated through the four quarters, so every pupil developed their skills in attack and defence, and although continuity was sometimes hard to find with regular changes, there was some excellent rugby, strong individual performances, periods of impressive interplay and an increasingly organised defensive line. The match was competitive yet sporting, and it was lovely to see both teams shaking hands at the final whistle. Looking ahead, improving body position in contact and awareness of space will aid the team’s development as the season goes on, but most importantly the pupils played with smiles on their faces.
