Inspiring Learning for Pre-Prep Pupils

Blustery, wet weather didn’t stop our Year 1 pupils from heading to Tolcarne Beach on Friday for an adventure with Big FT Rockpool Adventures Newquay.

In coats and wellies, pupils braved the elements, running onto the beach before gathering again whenever Big FT’s loud whistle signalled a discovery. His knowledge and enthusiasm held everyone’s attention, teachers included, and pupils got up close to a scorpion fish, several species of crab and an impressive purple starfish.

The day then became a pirate mission, with head torches and a pirate jig to Big FT’s harmonica, as the group bravely made their way through a dark cave. Pupils returned to school full of stories of their adventures, windswept but excited.

The trip is just one of a rich portfolio on offer at Truro School Pre-Prep and an example of how learning both in and out of the classroom inspires our pupils.

Those interested in our Pre-Prep offering for girls and boys from 3 and up are invited to our Early Years Open Morning, covering Nursery and Reception, on Saturday 14 November 2026 from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Between visiting our Enchanted Garden and on-site facilities, including the swimming pool and sports hall, you will have time to talk to our dedicated team of teachers and staff and see the educational and co-curricular activities available to your child.

From Nursery provision led by teachers to specialist teachers for swimming, forest school, music and more, we will guide you through our structured early learning programme, which balances continuous provision (learning through play) with phonics, maths and early writing.
