From Truro to Everywhere: Where Our Class of 2026 Are Headed Next

Following Truro School’s strongest A-Level results in over a decade, with 80% of grades awarded at A*-B, 50% at A*/A, 23% at A*, and an overall pass rate of 100%, our Class of 2026 have swapped Sixth Form corridors for university corridors right across the country, and beyond.

As ever, the destinations are as diverse as the students themselves. This year’s leavers have secured places at 32 universities across the UK, with course choices spanning an impressive range of disciplines. From Medicine, Veterinary Science, Optometry, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience and Chemistry to Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Geology and Mathematics, there is a strong representation of STEM and healthcare subjects.

Alongside these, students are heading on to study Law, Economics, Business, History, Politics and Philosophy, as well as creative and specialist subjects including Music, Architecture, Interior Design, Acting, Sports Technology and Football Broadcast and Journalism. Popular destinations include Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, Imperial College London, Warwick, Manchester, Durham and Exeter, alongside places at the University of Oxford and other leading universities across the country. It reflects our ethos at Truro School that every student will be supported to reach their full potential and find their individual pathway.

Ask our leavers what made the difference, and one theme comes up again and again: being known.

Sam, who achieved three A*s and an A and is off to Imperial College London to study Mechanical Engineering, put it simply: small classes meant his teachers “knew exactly what I needed, what I was good at, what I was bad at.” His dad was quick to add that Sam’s Truro School years were never just about the grades. The extra-curricular opportunities he got stuck into really “made him the man he is.”

It’s a sentiment echoed by parents across the cohort. One mum, whose daughter Elsie is the last of four siblings to come through Truro School, reflected on how the school had found “their own thing and their own drive” for each of her children, praising the small Sixth Form classes and “teacher support mechanisms” that helped build resilience and grit along the way.

For Zack, who is off to Warwick to study Law with an A* in his EPQ, A* in Geography and As in Economics and RS, it was this breadth of school life that was as important as the breadth of subjects. During his time in Truro School Sixth Form, he was able to balance rugby, surfing and academics without having to specialise. His mum agreed that Truro School had “completely changed his trajectory,” crediting activities like our Leiths-partnered Seasonaires cookery experience for broadening his horizons.

Personalised Pathways, Whatever the Destination

That shows in the range of specialist pathways on offer. Sophie, who is heading to Cardiff to study Medicine, credited the school’s dedicated Medical Pathway, clinics and visiting speakers with helping her chase a lifelong dream. Harry, who is bound for Bristol to study Medicine, also singled out the support of the Medical Pathways team, saying how the team was “really brilliant… doing mock interviews, talking to us about our choices, taking us onto new paths.”

For those with sights set on Oxbridge, Celia, who secured a place at Balliol College, Oxford, to study English Literature and Language, praised the school’s Oxbridge team as “so, so incredibly supportive,” helping her “through every single stage of the application process”.

Not every pathway leads through a lecture hall, either. Matilda, a member of our boarding community, achieved a Distinction in her Cambridge Technicals (CTEC) and is heading off to work on superyachts from January, a reminder that Sixth Form success at Truro School isn’t a single track, but one that supports students wherever their ambitions lie.

Supported Every Step of the Way

None of this happens by chance. Throughout Year 13, our Sixth Form team provides highly personalised support with every aspect of the UCAS process, from choosing courses and preparing for interviews, to making informed decisions about offers, navigating UCAS Extra, and, where needed, guiding students through Clearing on results day itself.

Alongside this, our Post-18 Options days introduce our Year 12 students to pathways beyond traditional university routes, including apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and gap years.

It’s this blend of personalised guidance, small class sizes, specialist pathways such as the EPQ, Leiths and CTEC, and a genuinely broad co-curricular offer through things like our Sixth Form Diploma Aspire, as well as Truro School’s excellent facilities, boarding, mentoring, leadership opportunities and partnerships including fencing and Leiths, that ensures our students leave not only with outstanding results, but with the confidence to stand out wherever they choose to go next.
