Book Week Off to a Magical Start

It has been a wonderful start to our ‘Animal Magic’ themed Book Week at Truro School Prep.

The magic began with a beary nice welcome, as Mr Morse, Mr Frewer, Mrs Morse, Mr Dove, Mrs Waddlington-Height and even a mystery bear on the roundabout greeted arriving families.

Excited children and parents were welcomed with song and dance from the teaching staff, setting the tone for a week filled with literature, learning and fun.

The morning assembly featured special video messages from author and round-the-world cyclist Alastair Humphreys and England rugby player George Newman, who shared their favourite books with the pupils.

Our brave Year 6 pupils led the assembly, inspiring a love of reading and all the magic that books can bring to younger children. Mrs Renshaw led the morning song, “From the Tiny Ant.”

Throughout the day, children explored exciting areas of the school, beautifully decorated over the weekend by our dedicated FTS team. Narnia appeared in the outdoor classroom, where pupils enjoyed Jackanory storytelling and discovered their teachers’ favourite books.

The Pre-Prep has been transformed into an underwater paradise, and our youngest pupils’ day included drama sessions, with a reading of The Mousehole Cat, where they acted as cats and fisherman Tom. In the afternoon, Truro School puppets entertained everyone with plenty of laughter.

The Year 3 classrooms have transformed into a jungle, the reception at Tresliske House into a Harry Potter-themed wonder, and the staircase into a Hungry Caterpillar shrine. In the library, a delightful tea party inspired by Alice in Wonderland was enjoyed, while each year group put their knowledge to the test in a team quiz in the hall.

With so many imaginative spaces to explore, children have begun to fully immerse themselves in different worlds on the first day of this action-packed week.

Meanwhile, our Town Crier, Harry, has set a special challenge: whenever his call is heard, everyone must stop and read. He has also encouraged all children to bring in a book from home for this.

As the week progresses, children will receive their own books through the book swap, engage in thought-provoking talks, and welcome special guests from our local community.

It was a fantastic start to what promises to be an incredible, inspiring and memorable Book Week at Truro School Prep, and we look forward to sharing more with you soon.
