Weekly News from Pre-Prep 20.03.26

It has been another busy and exciting week in Truro School Pre-Prep, with learning, creativity and curiosity shining through from Nursery to Year 2.

Our Nursery children have been exploring the lifecycle of a cat, learning how kittens grow into adult cats. They enjoyed labelling each stage and talking about what changes as animals grow. Alongside this, the children made the most of their time outdoors with water play, creating their own throwing games and crafting beautiful flowers for their door display. As part of Neurodiversity Week, Nursery also reflected on their individual strengths, celebrating how everyone’s brain is unique and special.

In Reception, the children have been fully immersed in the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears during Drawing Club, bringing the tale to life through their creativity. In literacy, they have been developing their writing skills by introducing question marks into their work. In music, the children explored lullabies, listening to Brahms’ famous piece and discussing how it made them feel. As part of Neurodiversity Week, they shared their thoughts about what goes on inside their heads, expressing their ideas through drawings and discussion.

Year 1 pupils have had an exciting week of discovery. In science, they experimented with magnets, learning how different poles attract and repel. They had great fun creating paperclip race tracks and observing how magnets can move iron filings. In literacy, the children stepped back in time to imagine life at Lanhydrock House, writing thoughtful diary entries from the perspective of either a servant or a child living there.

In Year 2, storytelling has been at the heart of learning, with pupils exploring the traditional tale of Baba Yaga and working on retelling the story in their own words. They have also taken part in Neurodiversity Week by learning about the brain and reflecting on challenges they have overcome, celebrating how their abilities have grown over time.

Across the Pre-Prep, it has been wonderful to see pupils engaging with their learning, developing confidence and celebrating their achievements and their individuality.
