Our Year 7s have been embracing language and culture in their German lessons, bringing a spring tradition to life across the school.
Inspired by the much-loved German custom of the Ostereierbaum, or Easter tree, pupils have been busy decorating delicate blown eggs, transforming them into colourful works of art. This tradition, enjoyed by families across Germany in the lead-up to Easter, involves adorning branches with hand-decorated eggs to celebrate the season.
Using young blossom branches arranged in vases, our pupils have created two beautiful Easter trees, now proudly displayed in the Senior School Reception. The tree is decorated with painted eggs, alongside ribbons and garlands, adding a bright and cheerful touch of spring to the campus.
Alongside the creative element, pupils have been building their German vocabulary, learning words and phrases associated with Easter. Activities like these play an important role in bringing language learning to life, helping pupils connect with traditions beyond the classroom.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Quaife, Mrs Srikanthan and the gardening team for their support in preparing the branches and helping bring this wonderful tradition to the whole school community.
