The Burrell Theatre was packed for the annual LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) Showcase. The evening was an opportunity for Senior pupils from Years 7 through to Sixth Form to share the work they have been doing in their classes ahead of their LAMDA examinations next term.
Led by Claire Rawlinson, LAMDA is available for pupils from Year 3 onwards, and is focused on building self-belief, confidence and communication skills.
LAMDA not only refines stagecraft, but also teaches resilience by helping pupils to speak and communicate clearly and effectively in front of an audience, and to overcome challenges and develop transferable skills to help with future job or university applications, presentations and interviews.
The evening perfectly showcased the benefits of LAMDA sessions, via a host of stunning performances that encompassed works by Oscar Wilde and Shakespeare, through to devised pieces written by the pupils, as well as thought-provoking speeches written and performed by Sixth Formers for their Grade 8 examinations. There was a palpable sense of pride and enjoyment from the family and friends gathered in the audience as each performer confidently took to the stage.
