Celebrating Neurodiversity Week 2026

Pupils and staff at Truro School Prep came together to celebrate Neurodiversity Celebration Week with a vibrant programme of activities designed to highlight the uniqueness of every brain. Led by Prep SENDCo Lizzie Waddling-Height and her Learning Support team, the week encouraged understanding, empathy and pride in difference across the school community.

Inspired by the book, The Brain Forest by Sandhya Menon, pupils explored the diversity of brains within their community, recognising that each person has unique strengths and challenges that can be celebrated.

In EYFS, children created colourful cauliflower brain prints, representing how their own minds are “wired” and sharing the different strengths they each bring. In Key Stage 1, pupils built “brain forests,” reflecting on challenges they had overcome and how their brains continue to grow and develop.

Older pupils in Key Stage 2 engaged in thoughtful discussions and activities inspired by the book, exploring how different brains experience the world and the importance of understanding and support.

Assemblies and tutor sessions reinforced the national message of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, helping to challenge misconceptions and promote inclusion. Pupils reflected on their own learning journeys and gained a deeper appreciation of the diversity around them.

The week concluded with a talk for parents by Becca Reed, offering further insight into supporting neurodiverse learners. A huge thanks to Mrs Waddling-Height and her team for delivering such an inspiring, useful and impactful week.
