Code, Cut, Christmas!

Year 6 pupils have been joined in their DT lesson by Dan from Cornwall College’s Carpentry department. Every pupil in this year group has made their own Christmas bauble, completely from scratch, using their own artwork to create template. The design has then been scanned by phone into the CNC machine, kindly brought with Dan on his visit. The scans have then been uploaded as a digital design to the cutter, which then knows what to cut, and where on the board of plywood.

Pupils have been testing out the equipment and working under the supervision of Mrs Knight and Dan to cut out the shapes of their designs. From here, they have filed the wood, and next week they will move on to decorating them – all ready to hang on their tree.

Mrs Knight has said, “This has been an exciting day, pupils have been able to experience using new equipment and learning new DT skills”.
