Artist in Residence Makes Waves

Truro School’s long-term Artist in Residence, Rachael Coward, continues to make waves in the contemporary art world with a series of impressive achievements this season.

Her artwork ‘Something Lost I’, created during her residency in the school’s Art Department and first exhibited in the Heseltine Gallery, was recently selected for a special exhibition at The Manchester Contemporary Art Fair. The piece formed part of Flamm, a contemporary art festival run in association with Auction House Gallery, and was chosen alongside works by nine other Cornwall-based artists to represent the county on a national platform.

The full list of featured artists included: Andy Webster, Benedict Davies, Bridgette Ashton, Eleanor Turnbull, Fran Rowse, Graham Taylor, Patrick Lowry, Rachael Coward, Sovay Berriman, and Stuart Robinson.

To commemorate the event, a limited edition giclée print of Rachael’s work, titled Something Found III, has been produced and is available to purchase directly from her. Rachael’s success doesn’t end there. Another of her residency pieces, Cross-Hatch, also originally shown in the Heseltine Gallery, is currently on public display at the Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery. The work forms part of Framed: The Cornwall Open, a major exhibition running until 31 January 2026.

Alongside these achievements, Rachael continues to develop new work as part of her ongoing, long-term residency at Truro School, following her well-received solo exhibition in September.

Her recent accomplishments highlight not only her personal artistic growth but also the strength and vitality of the creative community she helps to foster within the Art Department.
