Navigating Success: Silver DofE’s First Adventure

Over the weekend, our Silver DofE participants were lucky to enjoy perfect weather for their first training walk of the year. Heading to Dartmoor, laden with equipment, they were able to enjoy plenty of sunshine, a rare occurrence on a DofE expedition!

The focus for the day was building ‘key navigation skills’, particularly the 4 D’s: Direction, Distance, Duration, and Description. During the challenge, pupils practised taking and following bearings, creating effective route plans, and navigating safely across open moorland, all of which are essential skills for success at Silver level.
